A little taste of Texas carp fishing

Post by TXAustin on Sat Jan 26, 2013 7:51 pm

Thought i'd give the chance to take a look what it's like over here!
Our lakes are, in comparison to yours, massive. The lake I fish most of the time which is the now famous Lake Fork is 27,000 acres and that's not even one of the large ones! There's a lot of "roughing it" involved; No manicured swims and a lot of bushwhacking may be in order to clear a swim out. But, it's worth it in the end, fishing to fish that aren't the least bit suspicious of your rigs and bait.

We have very few mirror carp here, lots of commons but in the last 2 years i've only had 3 mirrors.

Along with the carp, we have another native species called the Smallmouth Buffalo. Buffs are targeted the same way carp are, and over here they get larger than the carp do, averaging around 40 in many places and up to over 80lb in some lakes.

This is my PB Buff at 63lb 3oz, Some of you may have seen this one floating around the internet, it sort of went viral hahaha

27,000 acres! WOW Where do you start! Try casting to the opposite bank!
    Very impressive looking Common Carp.
